Frequently Asked Questions

Why is My Help Book BC needed?
Finding community opportunities and resources can be life-changing. But sometimes finding timely information is difficult, especially if you don't know what is available. This is especially the case when facing an unexpected life challenge or change. Despite masses of online information, many useful resources remain hard to find. Unfortunately for those needing help, even though community resources exist, too many people remain unaware or unable to reach out. My Help Book BC aims to help remove some of these barriers.

In addition, finding online resources is a skill in itself. A significant number of people may have problems with this for various reasons. (The BC Ombudperson's Office reports getting high numbers of phone calls even though email and online forms are available*).

Why publish a printed guide and not just an online version?
  1. Information overload ––there is often too much online information to sift through
  2. Paper preference ––some people find it easier to browse print information rather than online
  3. Privacy ––nobody tracks your searches in a print directory
  4. Discovery –– finding new information that you would otherwise have not known about
  5. Digital divide ––lack of access to the internet
  6. Visual or literacy barriers to finding online information

Aren't there many community resource guides already?
My Help Book BC is curated for key resources rather than being a full listing of every single community resource. Its aim is to allow the general public and family and community helpers to find key information quickly and easily. Read some reviews & comments here.
